Jade Smith

Jade Smith is the Welsh Liberal Democrats candidate for Pontyclun Central Ward on Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council.

Jade is 29 years old and following her degree from the University of South Wales is currently training as an accountant alongside her role in a financial services organisation. Jade was born in London, though after visiting her chosen University, she knew this was where she wanted to be and moved to South Wales permanently, shortly before starting University in 2011.

Jade was diagnosed with Dyspraxia as a young child and knows how difficulties with access to diagnosis and support affect Neurodivergent individuals. Early diagnosis and support is vital to a childs development, and this subject is close to Jade’s heart. Due to her own experiences, Jade developed a passion early for supporting Neurodivergent and Learning Disabled individuals, and has been doing so for at least 20 years.

Jade knows the value in listening to each individual and ensuring that support is tailored as such, and wants to use these skills as a Councillor to help her community.

Jade is no stranger to the government austerity cuts which are hitting the most vulnerable in our society. Jade has continuously had to fight for things that would make a difference as a disabled individual and is saddened to see this commonly happening, with very little coverage or change and believes that people in positions of power need to do all they can to understand the impact things in everyday life affects a diverse range of people.

Jade believes that Councillors are there to serve the public and that reducing the gap in society for the most vulnerable should be at the forefront of this.
