This election could prove vital to the future of the Welsh Party as, following disappointing results in both the local and general elections, a fresh new vision and drive is need to take the Welsh Lib Dems into the coming years and the next elections. The Welsh Liberal Democrats are holding a leadership election to replace Mark Williams, the former MP who was leader until he narrowly lost his seat in the 2017 General Election. The election rules have been changed to allow any approved Candidate or Peer to stand and subsequently two people put themselves forward; Elizabeth Evans, Cllr for Aberaeron (Ceredigion) & Assembly Candidate for Ceredigion, and Jane Dodds, Westminster and Assembly Candidate for Montgomeryshire.
The timetable below shows the timeframe for the new election, which should see the new leader in place by the end of October/early November.
