This week 2 former Welsh Young Liberals exec members have taken on leadership roles in local government.
Cllr Rhys Taylor, former WYL Policy Officer, representing Gabalfa and Mynachdy, has been elected as the new Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats on Cardiff City Council.
Commenting, Rhys said:
“I’m delighted to have been elected as the Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Cardiff Council.
“The coronavirus outbreak has shown us what we can achieve and what’s possible when we work together. It has shown us just how much we all need each other to get ahead.
“Our thanks go to everyone in our city who has played a part in providing essential support and services and keeping us all safe by adhering to lockdown rules.
“There is no going back to the way things were, but we have to choose to get it right. A fairer, greener, and a healthier city is within our reach, and that is what Cardiff Liberal Democrats will champion day in and day out.”
Also this week, former WYL Vice Chair and YL co-Chair, Cllr Charlie Kingsbury, has been inaugurated as the Mayor of Aberystwyth, where he represents Penparcau on the town council.
In what has to be the most peculiarly low-key inauguration in Aberystwyth's history (and the first to be done by Zoom), I have just been inaugurated as the town's Mayor. It is an honour and a privilege.— Charlie Kingsbury (@kingsbury_cc) June 1, 2020
A massive congratulations to both!
